Offer them food while perched upon a platform, watching as they gently snatch it from your hand with their long, blue tongues. Continue to Daphne Sheldrick’s Orphanage to see small elephants cared for by attentive keepers, who also explain their phased reintroduction to the wild and Tsavo National Park. You may see elephant calves bathing in the mud hole and being bottlefed by human surrogate mothers. You may even view game from your tent, which overlooks a flooded watering hole and salt lick frequented by the local wildlife. Sweetwaters is an excellent place to see two of Africa’s most endangered species: black rhino and chimpanzee. Meet both when you visit a chimpanzee and rhino sanctuary, each set within the conservancy. Prepare to be taken by sweet Baraka, a black rhino that you may feed from a protected platform. In the evening, your private veranda provides a front-row seat to the nocturnal creatures moving in and out of the shadows to quench their thirst at the water’s edge.
